R.R. 322A (100 T) [S.H. 798. 10-12-20] G 2947 X4215 EFCl/T. 7th October, 1921. Messrs. Bleriot Ltd., 2 & 4 Catesby Street, Walworth, S.E.17. Dear Sirs, In answer to your WW/MM of the 5th inst.. re Bleriot Phi Cut-outs, we were satisfied with the quality of these six cutouts, but found, as you stated, that in every case they vibrated at the cutting-in point. We have, however, satisfied ourselves that this is not a necessary result of adjusting the cutouts to work to our specification, as we have ourselves adjusted four of these in such a way that they almost exactly comply, without at the same time giving any appreciable vibration at the cutting-in point, even if the dynamo speed be held at this point. The only way in which, under the circumstances, they do not comply, is that the reverse series amperes in the hot condition may be a little bit greater than our limit of x 1.0 Amps, but in the case of cutout No. 38681, on which you have put more series turns, we found this, after adjustment by us, to readily comply with the specification in all respects, so that we are of the opinion that, whilst requiring a few more series turns than standard, we do not require quite as many as you have put in the special one. To illustrate this point we enclose two sheets of figures for the cold and hot conditions respectively, giving the exact figures at which cutouts Nos. 38656, 38658, 38660 and 38681 operated (without vibration at cutting-in point), | ||
