Re: Use of Ethyl lead Fuel in
Bentley Cars.

--------------------

As you know we circulated all owners of P.III and 25/30 H.P. Rolls-Royce cars last week advising them to use straight petrol instead of ethyl until we could procure a new type of plug not susceptible to lead deposit.

We did not circulate Bentley owners because the question of "pinking" is involved but we must do something in view of their similar lead deposit trouble.

As we note in a letter from W. to C. G. {Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Pilkington, B-40-GA, ref. Hd {Mr Hayward / Mr Huddy} /SB {Mr Bull/Mr Bannister} 12/HR31.12.36, suggesting he should use a 50/50 mixture of straight petrol and ethyl petrol, C. wants to know whether we should do the same or whether you can suggest anything better possibly with benzol or Discol.

With regard to the last named, we are here still under the impression that it is definitely detrimental to petrol pump diaphragms even though several customers have reported their use of it lately without trouble so far.

Shall be very grateful for your views as soon as possible.
