You are quite right in reading that the front horn of the frame was broken whilst bumping the back axle. The frame was an old one which had sometime previously been bumped under the front axle; the front cross member was also an experimental one which was bolted to both the top and bottom flanges and the web of the frame. It is very probable that the front horn was very near breaking point when we fitted it up to use for bumping the back axle. There is a great deal of straining and twisting goes on at the front of the frame. The chassis is anchored by fixing the front wheels in shoes and is only controlled at this point. I quite agree that the broken brackets which were sent to you are strong enough for all vertical loads they may be called upon to carry, also that it is most likely the lateral shocks which caused their failure.
