-2- way up the quadrant, and we have very carefully gone over any stickiness of the throttle or the various levers. Petrol:- We have obtained a supply of commercial spirit, which under ordinary running conditions, does not appear to give any detrimental results, but detonations are considerable when picking up from slow speeds with the ignitions set to full advance. It is necessary to retard the ignition lever 6 notches. Slow running and high speed work is not affected by this spirit. We are endeavouring to obtain the specification of this spirit. Re radiator and water temperatures:- From the results of the run from Boulogne to Châteauroux and yesterday's test, it would appear that we are losing water via the overflow pipes of the radiator. Yesterday, on the long sustained run, we again reached 97°C. We should have boiled had it not been that we were held up for traffic, which caused us to slacken down. This is with the 4 slats in the bonnet open. The boom at 60 M.P.H. has not altered in any way, although we slacked off the front suspension of the body on the subframe and slacked off the rubber between the scuttle and the dashboard. We herewith send you results of the acceleration tests and dynamo output on half charge and with all lamps switched on. The clutch still maintains its smooth engagement. We shall have to put up the poundage of the dampers at the rear of the car to prevent the rear wheels from dithering at high speed, and also to check the very bad tendencies | ||
