HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL. RECEIVED 22 JUN 1931 ROAD SPRINGS. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M20.6.31. X5410. With reference to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}16/KT17631., you appear to be referring to a letter which I have not received, giving the spring makers' views. If it has gone astray could you send me a copy. We are aware that the range of stress is not altered in the main plate but our view was that the spring is rarely worked through its full range with any frequency, and in the meanwhile you obtained the thicker top plate which you appeared to be asking for. We do not however wish to press this view as we realise that the spring makers with their experience are likely to know best, and if the springs you send to France prove to be satisfactory there appears to be no point in making an alteration.
