Dear Manning,

Many thanks for your letter of August 5th. I am in a bit of a fix with regard to letting you have a car, because I have only two in the Experimental Department, and both these are away on holiday with members of the Staff. However, I will see what I can do about it.

With regard to coming to Derby to discuss the job. Hives is away on holiday at the moment, and I particularly want him to be at the Conference, because there is far more policy at the moment than engineering in this particular job.

I will therefore write you again as soon as he is back from his holidays, and tell you when he will be available.

Kindest regards,

Yours sincerely,
