Petrol Pump Failures.

With reference to your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/R.18.6.37, we are afraid it is not possible to give you numbers as regards petrol pump failures due to heat. Nevertheless, we consider there are many cases of trouble caused by this.

Frequently a chauffeur will report to us that when he has been taking a long fast run he has had a temporary petrol failure, but when the car has arrived at Cricklewood the symptoms have disappeared.

We have therefore always been inclined to blame heat when a customer's complaint has been intermittent failure and not total failure.

There is no doubt, of course, that heat definitely causes pumps to become noisy, owing to the excessive gassing of the petrol.

As stated above, we are sorry we cannot give you figures in this case.
