Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/JL. 25.8.40. Sir John Salmond, Ministry of Aircraft Production, Thames House, Millbank, S.W.1. Dear Sir John, Mr. Hives has handed me your letter of the 22nd. August regarding the half inch gun. We have been carrying out experimental firing trials on this weapon for the past fortnight and, as was to be expected, it has exhibited a number of teething troubles. Until we can fire a burst of 100 rounds with reliability, it is not possible to be able to say when we can get it into production. So far we have fired five rounds automatically on several occasions but the performance cannot be repeated with certainty. From now onwards we will keep you in touch with the progress made every fortnight. Yours sincerely, | ||
