-6- without being influenced by our present design and specification and that they quote prices for quantities. After receiving these particulars we may then find it necessary to add some of our special features, but this should not be done until we have received the spring makers proposals. Samples should be obtained and tested on the bumper. It was decided that E, BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} andRoy. should interview the spring makers with a view to carrying out the above procedure. Item 12 on agenda. Testing in France. See Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/MJ21.1.32. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} decided that no hard and fast rule be made, but that each case should be decided on its merits as it arises. Item 13 on agenda. Continental model, proposed modifications to cylinder head and camshaft and how such modifications would affect material. Also crankshafts with larger journals and balance weights and crankcases. (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} can explain) Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} gave the position at the moment of material and machining on the parts which Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} says would be affected if we adopt the modifications necessary to obtain the small increase in maximum speed. 65 "N" Series Chassis have yet to be built. We shall have to order further material about May 21st. All head castings are made for the 65 of "N" Series and about 10% of them are machined. The adoption of the modifications referred to above would involve the scrapping of about 50 castings. About 15% of the camshafts are machined. After discussion it was decided not to introduce the modifications until the next lot of material is ordered. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was requested to get together all the requisite improvements available to increase maximum speed so that they may be considered in time to beincluded when the next batch of material is ordered on May 21st. These improvements should be included in the parts to be tested on the 10,000 miles test of 19-EX, which it is understood will be completed before the next material sanction is due on May 21st. contd: | ||
