20/25HP TANK ENGINES.

The 100-hour test in connection with the oiling modification etc. was completed yesterday the 7th inst.

The engine was dismantled today for inspection of the felt washer and oil retaining device generally, in the presence of Major Howard and Captain Hodgkinson. The parts were found to be in excellent condition.

The main figures of interest in connection with the oil retaining device are as follows:-

Engine tilted at an angle of 35° Oil Temperature approx. 75°C.g.

At the end of the first 10 hours:-
Engine running - no oil leak.
Engine stationary - leak 50 drops per minute.

The figures at the end of the test were:-
Engine running - no leak.
Engine stationary - 33 drops per minute.

During the test we have used a carburetter with modification to prevent ingress of dust to the Air Valve. This modification is quite satisfactory so far as we have been able to test it and does not affect the running in any way, either power or petrol consumption.

We have also tested the two sets of screened plugs and wiring in accordance with Contract T555 (D.O.2). Both these sets have functioned satisfactorily and have not in any way affected the running of the engine.
