2. II Behaviour of brakes for silence. Both hand and foot-brakes are, up to time of writing, very quiet indeed, but when I took over the car, the driver here said the brakes were not very good, and on trying the car I found they were fairly good but not what they ought to be, so on looking round I found that oil was coming out of the brake drums. I took at least 1 1/2 pints of excess oil from the axle. The brakes are now quite good, but it is possible there is still a very slight trace of oil on them which is keeping or helping to keep them quiet. IV. Water boiling Have experienced no trouble at all, and so far the highest temperature of the water has been 82°C. When greasing the car round on the 23rd I found the two bolts which hold the bottom steering lever O.S. were quite loose though the split-pins were still in them. They were tightened up and the bolts on the N.S lever examined and found O.K. Yesterday I found the bolts of the N.S lever were quite slack and had to tighten them on the road. All these nuts were pinned up so they could not have unscrewed at all. Mileage since June 20th 1033 Previous Mileage 3048 June 27th Total 4081 miles Add 5% to these figures for speedometer error.
