1187 6th April 1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}24/AP. Messrs Ley's Malleable Castings Co.Ltd., Derby Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Pease. LEPAZ When the writer was last at your works he remarked that the rough surface of 'Lepaz' might lead to rapid wear of the brake linings. On a Bentley car which has now done 9,000 miles we have worn out a set of Ferodo B.Z. linings which were larger than usual against aluminium drums with 'Lepaz' liners. Ferodo B.Z. has a high wear resistance. We generally can run a Bentley 14,000 miles before we are forced to reline, using narrower and less durable linings. This points to the fact that 'Lepaz' is rough on friction linings. The brakes in question have been squeaking occasionally but not very badly, and groaning. We have not yet fitted 'Lepaz' drums to a Phantom III. but we will inform you of their behaviour in due course. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
