c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} 1110 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}17/JH. 14th October, 1937. Messrs. Borg & Beck Co.Ltd. Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa. For the attention of Mr. Armitage. returned to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Dear Sirs, Mr. Baily has handed to the writer your letter of Oct. 13th. With regard to the 13 1/2 driven plate used on our 15,000 miles test, this was one of the original plates made up by us at Derby with the cushion segments you handed to us, and after a total of 17,000 miles the wear was hardly measureable, none of the rivets were loose, and the segments had not worn into the centre plate, the mark not being of measureable depth; the run-out when first assembled was .007, but this was not checked after the trial. The operation remained smooth throughout, and the working "mu" was about .19. With regard to the two plates with .035 cushion springs, these are being fitted to cars, and we will let you know our report on them early next week. We have urged the grinding of the above in our Tool Room, the assembly of the 6 plates is proceeding, and we will be glad to keep you fully advised on any snags or difficulties we experience. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
