W. - signifies Works. N. - " " Cricklewood. P. - " " Paris. QUARTERLY COMPLAINTS. For quarter ending 30.9.27 40/50 - Phantom. Nature of Complaint. Noisy Tappets. Keyed type tappets and extra tappet lubrication together with improved bottom valve spring washers have reduced this trouble to very little. Servo Jaggers. Servo jaggers it appears are still occurring with latest damping device and this is accumulation of dust etc. in servos. It does not occur until a large mileage has been covered, say over 10,000 miles. Sticking throttles. Roller bearing throttle spindle and leading edge of throttle reduced have reduced this trouble. Exhaust butterfly choke squeaking. Lubrication scheme, results in eliminating squeaks. Our experience with Graphol for this job is that its effect is extremely short lived. One felt-based lubrication system is very much more effective. No. of Cars. W. 35. N. 58. P. 1. Total 94. Last qtr's total - 79. W. 29. N. 9. P. 5. Total 43. Last qtr's total - 42. W. 55. N. 29. P. 11. Total 95. Last qtr's total - 62. W. 7. N. 17. P. -. Total 24. Last qtr's total - 38. Remarks. An improved oiling scheme has been introduced and detailed information of this scheme has been circularised to all Depots. This scheme covers all Phantom cars manufactured. The latest damping device helps to overcome this. N. state they have trouble with accumulation of dust in the halo plates and in the bushes of the guide pins, causing them to seize. This number includes those cars which we are now fitting with Roller Bearing Throttles, even where there is no complaint. This trouble will eventually disappear as cars are fitted with new design. We recommend Graphol lubrication but we have no definite cure for this complaint. Paris in their report say that all the cars squeak. (No change from last quarter). | ||
