Contd: -4- Could you please specially note whether any trouble with toggling or clearance is experienced with 6-Goshawk-ll. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is anxious for this point to be especially established as the alternative he sees of improving the scheme would be by increasing the bend on the bottom bracket carrying the bottom ball socket. We should like to hear from you something further on this matter as Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} points out that to overcome this trouble may mean entirely rearranging the rear shock absorbers altogether. 10. Bonnet strips. These have not been altered but a scheme is being set out so that the belting will take the place of the rivets which now are adjacent to the hinges of the bonnet as suggested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. 11. Steering wheel. This car has been fixed up with the latest Dover steering wheel also with the control levers of thicker material as per the latest D.O. instructions. 12. Distributor. We have fixed the the distributor cover so as to be an easier fit on the spigot as suggested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. We have not however, cut down the height of the spigot as suggested by him, but this point is having D.O. consideration. 13. Oil and petrol filters. We had this under close inspection during our tests but for the last 300 miles run, no trouble was experienced with these filters being choked, and this point and hope will receive attention during its run across France. 14. Silencer and support for silencer etc. These are to the latest D.O. instructions. 15. Ignition make and break. The cam block on this showed signs of wearing badly during its early running but since lubricating slightly by hand as suggested from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, it appears to be behaving very well. Will you please notice how this continues to behave. We have not as yet been able to fix any scheme of pad lubricatio as now instructed from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 16. Steering. The cross steering tube levers, joints etc. as far as I can ascertain, are the same as 4/5-Goshawk-ll but on this car I can definitely say that they are as per the latest drawing instructions as issued to the Works. The clearances for the ball end for the cross steering tube are also satisfactory in all possible positions of the steering. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
