On 4-Goshawk-11, I understand the brake drum flanges are to be rather small in diameter than the drawing.(7-Goshawk-11 has been made the same) but on 5-Goshawk-11 I understand the flanges are a little larger in diameter than the drawing. On 6-Goshawk-11 we have made a special point of making these as per the latest drawing instructions. We have not tried the car since this has been done. We feel this is a point which requires settlement. We should be glad if you will give this your special attention and report on behaviour generally.

7. Gear Box. The gears seem very good. The side shaft has the usual dry noise. This is a point which I have arranged for Sft.{Mr Swift} to reproduce on the Unit Test Rig in the Works so that we can investigate from which source the noise takes place.
The worst feature on this car, I feel, is a period of rattles which take place from the gear box and which I have already reported - copy of which report has been sent on to you.
I am sorry we have not been able to tackle this job, but I propose to do so on the early Goshawk-11 cars at the Works on which we have been able to produce a similar effect but not so pronounced. I certainly do not feel that this car with this fault as it is at present, will be satisfactory to deliver to customers. [handwritten] It may go off with running.

8. Undershield. We have fixed up this car with a damping panel on to the front panel of the undershield, which has been 'booming' rather badly. We have also fixed a temporary experimental cover over the hole through which the exhaust pipe passes as requested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, and we have also attempted to improve the joint locally around the starter motor as also suggested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

9. Shock absorbers. No alterations have been made to this but the matter of the rear shock absorber having more movement to avoid toggle and the front spring absorber having a stronger spring so as to get more range of friction as suggested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} at Le Candel, are receiving attention. In discussing this matter with Ey. he points out that for the rear shock absorbers a correct length of coupling has to be used in relation to the depth of the rear spring i.e., for the a spring depth of 1.950 or thereabouts, the coupling should be 3.4. 2.190 approx. the coupling should be 3.650. A spring depth of 2.370 the coupling should be 3.950. On 6-Goshawk-11 we appear to be quite on the right side; as regards the depth of the spring this is 2.375 and the coupling length is 4.25. Could you please note and report on these dimension in connection with 5-Goshawk-11 also 4-Goshawk-11. - the latter having ignition trouble with toggling.
