COMPLETED 22.3.38. PHANTOM III STANDARDISATION OF PARTS MODIFICATION TO DISPENSE WITH OIL COOLER ON PHANTOM III CARS WITH ALUMINIUM WITH Purpose To avoid possibility of oil cooler failure and to effect a financial saving. Blind Report and Remarks Oil temperatures have been tested to see if oil coolers can be dispensed without, which means that the saving will become effective at the 16th chassis in 'E' series. Test bed conditions have been successfully completed with oil at 130°C temperature which is R.R.H.C. as per Joiner. (On back of sheet 2) Oil cooler has been omitted from chassis subsequent to 'D' series, this effecting a saving of £1.16.0d per chassis. It is now understood that coolers may also be removed from all 'E' series chassis fitted with additional oil jets under the pistons, of which it is understood there are 16. The saving to be effected will be £2.8s.6d as against the normal, and so far 30 are involved. The cooler described as replacement for the earlier type with metal connection will be scrapped. In addition the existing oil pipes will be saved to be modified at Works. The value £0.10.0 will be credited. The above proposition and saving applies to cars in Great Britain, for cars operating abroad the modification will not apply. | ||
