RE LEFT HAND P.II CHASSIS.

Many thanks for your SgE4/E9.2.31.

We are very near to having 2/3 left hand chassis for despatch, the outstanding items now are:-

(1) Road Springs.
They are expected to be delivered about the end of this week.

(2) Yale Locks and Keys.
A cable has been despatched to America in connection with this matter, but up to the moment we have received no reply.
Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} is hoping to get some information this week.

(3) We are having to change the brake linings from Ferobestos to Ferodo.

The outstanding feature, you will see, is the obtaining of Yale Locks. If we can get these within the next few days, we should be ready to commence despatching the chassis during the next fortnight.

I do however, consider that I ought to put before you that I do not think the chassis are fit to send to America, even when complete to specification, and that if possible, we should delay despatching them for at least two months.

I think we should improve the following items on the Left Hand Chassis before despatch:-

(a) Roar, Boom and Fuss.
I believe we should get serious complaints about this eventually.
The competent testers who tried 25-EX when Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was in America considered this complaint very objectionable.
Therefore I believe we should be wise to fit the new engine mounting, if successful, before despatch.

(b) The first left hand cars are to be fitted with low rating springs, similar to those which were on 58-GN., 18-EX and 25-EX.
Experimental Department, however, are not satisfied, and they are still experimenting.
