x7772! To Wcr. from Oy. c.c. Er. c.c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c.c. Hmr ---------------- Oy2/DM.{D. Munro}22.5.30. P.II Chassis. 69-WJ. (2nd R.H. P.II Imported). ---------------- Mr. Burton sent some particulars on this car on April 17th. I discussed these with Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and questioned some points, and now have further particulars from Btn. as under:- Car had run in our hands 3,800 miles:- (1) Brakes. Brakes went out of action owing to wear - pedal hit floor. This was before we received bulletin Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 139, instructing changes for 2:1 foot leverage and new cam levers. These instructions have now been carried out. Btn. writes:- "I don't think there is any trouble here other than what seemed to us rather excessive wear for the mileage." (2) Gearbox oil was low. Added 2 quarts (U.S.) equals 1.6 quarts Imperial. "We notice when the gearbox is full the oil very definitely leaks out through the vent hole in the rear of the change-speed operating shaft casing, particularly after the oil is well warmed and frothy." Note: Warm weather is starting in U.S. They have had temperatures of 90°F already. Under these conditions such troubles always show up instantly. (3) Rear Axle. (a) Oil leaked from the pinion front bearing. "At the time that we first noticed the leakage of oil in the pinion front bearing, the level of oil in the casing was low. It was necessary to add .8 Imperial pints of oil to bring it back to the top of the standpipe." "Later. Rear axle has just been drained. 2.9 Imperial pints ran out. (3½ Imp. pints normal level.) This is after running only 500 miles since last filling." "Axle refilled with Whitmore O in accordance with Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}158 adding an extra pint after it was full." cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
