c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 640 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}8/G.30.3.38. STEADMAN WRAITH 111 - BONNET AND RADIATOR. Please receive herewith the following schemes :- F.CD.410 Modified Radiator Top Tank and Diagonal Stay Rods. F.CD.411 Bonnet Widney Unbroken Line Hinge. F.CD.564 Fixed Centre Hinge Pin. (Widney Hinge). The schemes F.CD.410 and 411 shews a bonnet to incorporate a Widney Hinge, the bonnet top plates must be produced in 'Lysaghts' No.1 silver finish steel 19 S.W.G. (.040) and the side panels in aluminium 12 S.W.G. (.104). The modifications necessary to the diagonal stays are shewn on F.CD.410. It has been found necessary to reduce the depth of the top tank by .225. We also send the alternative scheme F.CD.564 which should be tried first. The centre hinge pin has been made to do the work of the diagonal stays, and should be used in conjunction with F.CD.411. With this scheme it is not necessary to reduce the depth of the top tank. An existing car can therefore easily be adapted to try this scheme. It should be pointed out in connection with this Widney hinge, that as it cannot be got on the first 100 Wraith, it will not be possible to bring it in before the 301st chassis, so the urgency of the experiment must be based on that. For the moment none of these drawings should be detailed. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, | ||
