[Handwritten: YNG See me HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}] Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives. With reference to your letter of the 17th February and your request for a 'lead' response curve up to 4 cubic centimetres per gallon in Air Ministry D.T.D. 134 spirit, we attach herewith such a curve which has been made up from tests carried out on Shell D.T.D. 134 spirit, as this, we understand, is the contractor supplying your needs at the Derby works. We give below the figures from which this curve was made up and you will note that it does not quite go up to 4 c.c.'s per gallon, but we have extrapolated the curve, and this will give you some rough idea of the Octane number you will get with an addition of 4 c.c.'s of lead per gallon. Shell D.T.D. 134 Spirit Tested on an S.30 Engine @ 900 R.P.M. and 150°C (300°F) jacket temperature. The present Air Ministry test is already carried out on such an engine running at 900 R.P.M. but the jacket temperature is 100°C (212°F). The test conditions under | ||
