| X261a Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/KW. 30th July, 1936. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Summers, Esq., Messrs. John Summers & Sons Ltd., Hawarden Bridge Steel Works, Shotton, Chester. Dear Dick, I was very much entertained by your correspondence with Mr. Cowen. Strangely enough, though you may hardly believe it, a steady barrage of letters such as yours sometimes helps us to make progress. The difficulty always is that when cars are selling well - as they certainly are doing now - the Sales Department and Administration very reasonably look upon any proposed changes with a jaundiced eye. It is very annoying that we can make no impression on your valve gear noise. As a matter of fact we changed a lot of the pieces of the valve gear when the car was last at Derby and we thought we had cured the trouble. I myself did not try the car, but I am sorry if it still persists. I quite agree that you do not appear to require any assistance from the Repair Dept. to wear the treads from your rear tyres. Half the staff are on holiday; when they come back we will get some people together for a sortie to Shotton. Yours sincerely, | ||
