Mr Johnson. Mr Royce. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Aly5/L221013. October 22nd. 1913. EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. "B" Weekly Report. Reports have been made on :- Frame Tests by bumping (daily). Revolving test on front horn of Frame. Steering Wobbles. X.457 It is noticeable that cars which have been used for steering wobble experiments and which have been made to wobble on many occasions are more prone to wobble and more susceptible to pot holey roads than they were before so used. I think this is because all the working parts have been worn very free and little bits of back lash occur at all these points. I believe that cars when turned out new are slightly stiff in some of the joints and that the tendency to start a wobble is damped out by this friction. I think this is why the wobbles are not discovered before cars are sold. The wobbles are not in evidence until the steering is free. If some slight friction damper were fitted on the pivot pin I believe it would prevent many of the wobbles from starting on a very free steering. I will see if I can fix up some temporary friction dam--- | ||
