We tapped the pump to make sure that it was not sticking valves with no result. We then disconnected a pipe at the delivery side of the pump and vigorously operated the mechanical appliance, this cleared the air lock and we got away. A policeman by the way protesting all the time we had no right to hold the traffic up. Upon clearing Rouen we stopped and fitted the short circuiting pipe cutting out the filter and the other pipe lines there was a decided improvement. We raced the car for miles until it was unbearable with heat. They stopped for five minutes upon restarting we had a moment or two of fluttering but the engine continued to fire and very quickly cleared itself. This was repeated three times with the same result. One could start up proceed a hundred yards when a fluttering and it cleared itself. With the pipe lines and filter coupled up, there was a complete failure, therefore the pipe lines and filter are just sufficient to absorb sufficient heat to cause a stoppage. We | ||
