1360 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}7/MH.{M. Huckerby} 16th. March 1938. The Belgrave Engineering Co., Belgrave Works, Black Heath, Nr. BIRMINGHAM. Dear Sirs, We have made a start on machining the six inlet valves EW.1429 which you sent us in your 7.5/8.5% Chrome and are surprised at their hardness which is making the machining somewhat difficult. What we should like to know by return is possible, is whether there should be any heat treatment given to these particular valves before machining or fitting ? Incidentally, the stem tip is required to be hard. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
