RE. POLICY CONCERNING 10,000 MILES TRIAL.

I was very pleased to see that you also suggest we cannot, and need not, run two cars.

As the chief object of the Works running in France is a matter of strength and safety, the running by the Works people should fulfil this object.

I quite agree that before improvements are sent to France they should be tested in England by both the Works and Sales, to see that they are desirable and promise to be satisfactory. It is no use rushing off to France with something which we would not adopt even if it withstood the trials, and conversely, should any part go through the trials which are being conducted for other more important parts, these parts may not be adopted in our final decision. Sometimes they are after all thought less desirable for other reasons than the existing pieces; sometimes they are merely stepping stones to something better, and the change, unless it is urgent, may be put off until something still better passes the trial.

I am pleased to say that I think the progress we have made during this year is promising to be of greater value than in any other period recently.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}
