Roy{Sir Henry Royce}'s --------------------- BENTLEY CARS - REAR AXLES. --------------------------- The earlier Bentley cars up to chassis No. 28th in 'B' were fitted with the new departure type bearing, taking a combined thrust and journal load. As a result of one of the later 10,000 miles trials it was found that this bearing wore, but we did not anticipate getting so rapid a piling up of mileage as to necessitate making a change on cars delivered, but since then we have had Mr. Summer's car in which case a mileage of 12,000 miles produced in about two months has resulted in the inner race of the bearing in question completely failing. It will, therefore, be necessary to include the replacement of this bearing by the present standard type as and when the cars come in for replacement of the front axle. New bearing No. GB.1208. Order Office should press for a further supply of these in order to get a stock to meet the emergency. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
