To By... from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}24/N.14.12.38. Bentley Chassis B.199.KU. Mileage 294. Throttle Sticking. I am sending you the body of an S.U. carburetter with the throttle gummed up for your comments. The car in question belongs to our Agent Jack Olding, and has not as yet been registered. The trouble has nothing to do with our design or the carburetter people, and is a case of the owner using petrol or substitute which leaves a varnish when heated up. We have asked them what petrol they use, and their reply was National Benzol mixture. If people will use cheap petrol, then I say the cost of approximately 25/- which this job will cost ought to be borne by them. The pipe lines, filter pump have had to be cleaned out. Our Agents ought to be told that nothing but straight petrol should be used. Take the case of a car that came into K.{Mr Kilner} approx. 6 months ago, the throttles were stuck solid, the petrol tank had to be taken off and the mixture washed out with methylated spirit to dissolve it. In this case Coaline and Discol had been used and from what we learnt one or the other breaks down and produces a kind of tar. Excuse lengthy report but one feels annoyed at complaints that we are not in any way responsible. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} | ||
