Martindale} HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}1/R.30.9.37. DUMB BELL LINK TEST RIG. Following the information that the above links fail quickly if they rotate, we would like the following work carried out and tests made:- Turn 4 links G.84925 in mild steel, and heat treat to give 187-247 Brinell. Choose two of the above having the closest Brinell figures, and test to destruction, or for a maximum of 50 hours, allowing one to rotate, the other not rotating. Test a standard link G.84925 to destruction, allowing it to rotate. Note time. Finally, using one of the remaining two mild steel links, run for 50 hours, rotating, under no load, to show that a definite impact is required to break it.
