40/50 HP. PETROL TANK FILLER.

The air release on the 40/50 petrol tank has proved inadequate when the K-S telegage is used. If the air release is restricted at all, the pressure in the tank, when petrol is added quickly, is sufficient to blow all the red liquid out of the Telegage. This of course applies to the earlier model some of which are fitted to cars in service, and which have not the latest balance line modification. To overcome this it is found necessary to carry out the following modification :-

(1) Instead of the two 1/8" holes in the outer filler tube F.77945 use six holes 3/16" diameter.

(2) Delete the large holes in the inner sleeve F.74719 - this becomes a blank sleeve.

With this arrangement it is possible to fill the tank up as quickly as a petrol pump is capable, without damage to the Telegage. If all the released air is made to pass through the sleeve and the six holes, by seating the top of the filler, it is still danger-proof. Having deleted the holes in the sleeve, no petrol is lost from the tank via the holes in the outer sleeve when running on the road.
