Dear Sirs,
We beg to thank you for your letter of the 1st inst., and we have duly received the further sample of liquid taken from one of your experimental cars. This is showing a darker colour than the new liquid, which is apparently the effect of daylight on it.
We have checked the specific gravity of the fluid taken out of the production gauges, and find that it only varies from the standard by 1%. We think therefore that there is no chance of its having been in any way contaminated by petrol vapour, as the appearance of the liquid originally led us to think, as the specific gravity would have been more greatly affected.
