Huckerby} Dear Sirs, Reverting to our letter dated the 17th instant, in connection with the complaint, made in your letter dated the 14th instant, that the 2 hose connections had not proved satisfactory for your requirements. We are detailing below a report which has been received from our Laboratory, and which we feel sure will be of interest to you. "We have examined the returned Hose Connection, the interior of which is in an extremely soft, tacky and de-composed condition. Acetone extracts were carried out on the de-composed inner lining of the returned sample, as compared with new standard rubber, with results as follows:- Returned Sample 32.05% Extract. New Standard 7.38% Extract. Examination of the Acetone Extract from the returned sample shows the presence of an appreciable proportion of mineral oil. The customer informs us that he uses a corrosion inhibitor in the cooling water, and he forwarded a sample of this material. We have carried out tests with a view to discovering the effect of this inhibitor on our rubber, and the results are as follows, tests being carried out in comparison with water under the same conditions. continued.....
