Oil control and efficiency, quoting a letter from Wellworthy Limited about their new 'High Efficiency' Slotted Oil Control Piston Ring.

OIL CONTROL & EFFICIENCY "During the last two or three years there has been a good "deal of experimenting with both Piston Rings and Scrapers with "the idea of improving oil consumption generally. "Original rings of the Slotted Oil Control type which we "manufactured had a comparatively narrow oil groove, giving a "maximum area in contact combined with reasonable oil scraping "qualities, but with certain pistons which are now being fitted "usually with a view to reducing piston slap the tendency is for "more oil to be consumed than with the plain pot type piston. "To meet these new conditions we have developed a slotted ring "which we call our "H.E." or "High Efficiency" Slotted Oil Control "Ring in which we have increased the area of the slots, reduced the "area in contact and generally speaking for all purposes it is "undoubtedly a more efficient ring than the previous type, and we "are pleased to say that from experience the life of it has shown "itself to be quite satisfactory. "We ar-e enclosing a sample (not to any of your respective "size s or finish) for your perusal as we feel you will wish to "consider the adoption of what we feel after considerable study "and trial is a more efficient ring than the former standard type. "We shall be most pleased to send you along a sample set "made to any of your own sizes if you would wish us to do so and "to arrange for our Technical Representative to come along and "discuss this, or any other matters appertaining to piston ring "problems and efficiency."
