To EY. Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} LES Re Road Springs for Eight Olympia Show Cars. We understand that you are anxious to order the road springs for the eight Olympia Show Cars. We should imagine that it will be some time before Sales will be able to tell us what the weights of the coachwork and accessories for these various cars will be. From E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN.15.6.35. it will be seen that the weight on the front wheels is almost constant irrespective of the type of body, and therefore we suggest we could order front road springs to correspond to a front wheel weight of 23 cwts. 1 qr. We understand that whatever rear road springs are fitted to these cars they will have to be replaced by further springs after Olympia when the new dropped front end fixing is fitted. It is therefore not necessary that the springs fitted in the first place be suitable for running the car. We suggest that eight sets of road springs be ordered for a rear wheel loading the same as the Enclosed Limousine, 31-EX, viz: 26 1/4 cwts. unladen. If the springs selected were right the cars would have to be weighted to arrive at a suitable appearance and we suggest that provided we have some springs capable of dealing with the heaviest car the lighter ones can be dealt with either by the removal of some of the plates or by weighting the body. It might be considered that it is not worth while grinding the plates of these springs or preparing the centralised chassis lubrication of the plates. With respect to SpectreCodename for Phantom III, Nos. 4,5 and 6, in our E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN.15.6.35. we have given you what we compute will be the weights of these cars so that the springs may be ordered.
