EXAMINATION OF ELECTRICAL UNITS
REMOVED FROM B.22 ENGINE UNIT ON 6 B IV.

Dynamo.

This is a standard Production-built machine.

The gearing-housing of the tachometer drive was found to be loose on the end-bracket, owing to the counter-sunk head screws, securing the base, having worked loose.

There was practically no oil in the gearing, when it was opened. Either insufficient had been supplied, or it had leaked away.

The commutator and brush surfaces had a fairly dry appearance, as though oil had not reached them. This suggests that the oil-sealing modifications are a success. A slight track was worn on the commutator, and the brushes were badly stuck in their holders.

The insulation was broken down on the armature, and partially broken down on the field circuit. This was probably due to carbon-copper dust deposits.

The rubber buffers on the drive were quite O.K.

Motor.

This was in good condition.
