Urgent. 44554 [REDACTED STAMP] c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} "W" SERIES MATERIAL. Now that a Standardization Sheet has been issued in connection with "V" Series, it is necessary that I should draw your attention to the fact that "W" Series differs in a number of points from "V" Series, as follows:- 1. A combined shutter and radiator is used, of larger dimensions. 2. A wider dashboard with a slightly different arrangement of small parts on same which include a form of autovac which, whilst in substance it corresponds with what is used on the 20 HP, it differs in form from what was used on "V" Series. The "V" Series Autovac was a cylindrical tank pushed through a hole in the dash and bolted up to same by a flange. The "W" Series tank is rectangular shape, with a quadrant cut out of the left hand corner looking from the front; to clear the Exhaust pipe, the Klaxon Horn is carried on a special bracket rivetted to the tank. 3. Bonnet. This differs mainly in dimensions, but it has a change in feature in as much as the projecting rivet head of the old bonnet is replaced with a flush rivet on the new. Different handles are used on the bonnet, and different holding down clips which act as a combined holding down piece and a side clamp to prevent vibration and rattle. A car showing the new features will be available next week from the Experimental, but the parts in question were definitely agreed to be ordered originally and produced in parallel with the experimental work. The point I am raising now is that either we should have a Standardization Sheet for these parts or you should confirm your agreement to carry on with the new parts which have been on order for a long time, and for which material has been in stock for months, or we shall have to obtain R's agreement to reverting to "V" Series material carried on the new dimensions of Dash, Radiator & Bonnet.
