Although we are using white metal bearings for the 3½ litre Bentley engine, there is no reason why RR.56 shims should not be used in conjunction with such bearings instead of white metalled steel shims, the latter being rather prone to erode away on the bearing surface. GEORGE LIMERS It is necessary as agreed with GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} that the RR.56 bearings are reduced slightly below the working bearing surface. .002 would be sufficient, but it will be necessary to leave the bearing practically flush at the extreme ends to prevent oil leakage.
