RE BONNET RATTLES.

We give below an extract from a report we have received from Mr. Feat, Australia in regard to the above and also in regard to the adoption of louvred bonnets as standard for Australian cars.

We shall be glad to have your comments on this to enable us to reply to Mr. Feat:-

"I am receiving a considerable number of complaints from owners of post-war Rolls-Royce cars in respect of rattles and other noises from bonnets, and shall be glad to know what you are doing at Derby to correct these.

My personal opinion is that the new bonnet with its two forward ports and two rear ports, is not a patch on the old louvred bonnet for Australian conditions. The sliding portions add weight and are the cause of most of the rattles and moreover these ports soon begin to look in very bad condition if same are made use of, owing to the sliding of same removing the paint, to say nothing of the fact that the studs which pass through the bonnet are apt to turn as regards their heads on the exterior side, thus breaking away the paint, and quickly becoming unsightly. I strongly recommend that the old louvred bonnet be returned to as regards this market, and shall be glad of any hints you can give me as regards curing the rattles and other noises on those cars in this country which have been fitted with the objectionable type of bonnet referred to".
