THE ECONOMY FILTER Forged steel cross arm and hand screw. Top—14 gauge ribbed steel with by-pass spring. Can type cartridge — scientifically designed and packed with a milliard cell material containing no abrasive or chemicals. Gives the highest degree of filtration and traps the maximum amount of solids possible. The cartridge also serves as the by-pass plunger. Shell—one piece 16 gauge steel with inserted brass fittings. The brackets, lugs and body are constructed to withstand hard service without injury. GENERAL FILTER TROUBLE-FREE SERVICE For The Life Of The Motor It keeps the oil in a new oil condition between oil changes . . . and with a minimum of trouble and expense. The new General Filter—operating with the motor—is a miniature oil refinery —removes all injurious contamination which slowly accumulates in the lubricating oil. It is simple in construction, yet embodies every feature necessary for the most efficient oil filtration and time-saving, money saving service operation. The New General Filter represents the most practical value ever offered in automotive oil filters. OPERATION The average gasoline engine will pump between 75 to 175 gallons of crankcase oil per hour and approximately 10% of this oil is by-passed from the pressure line through the filter and back to the crankcase. In the first 1,000 miles the oil becomes contaminated with as much as 5% solids which includes carbon, road dust, minute particles of metal and other impurities. These particles form abrasive compounds which cause excessive wear on moving parts and as the temperature increases the abrasive action is greater. An accumulation of these fine impurities forms sludge which will clog screens and oil lines, also tend to cause sticky piston rings and valves. Changing the oil will not remove the sludge which is pocketed throughout the crankcase and new oil will become contaminated immediately when coming in contact with this entrapped sludge. The General Oil Filter will not only remove these very fine solid particles as fast as they enter the oil, but will also clean the inside of the motor and eliminate the troublesome sludge. Anyone Can Replace The Cartridge in 1 Minute It is recommended that the cartridges be replaced every 3,000 to 6,000 miles, depending on age and condition of motor, also type of operation. This period can readily be determined by visual inspection of the oil on the bayonet or gauge stick. When the oil starts to show dirt contaminations the cartridge should be changed. However, this requires no labor charges and no expense other than the cost of the cartridge. There are no pipes or fittings to disconnect and no drain plug to remove from bottom of filter. By loosening the hand screw the cross arm and cover can easily be removed and the cartridge can be replaced by merely lifting it out and dropping a new one in its place. The hand screw requires very little pressure to obtain a perfect seal between the top and body. Anyone, regardless of experience, can make the replacement in one minute or less.
