W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., -2- 29th August, 1941. I should also like to refer to Mr. Rigby's letter of the 22nd August, in which he suggests fitting a Lining having a co-efficient of about .26. I feel sure that you would be disappointed at the behaviour of a Brake fitted with these Linings, and do not think that you would help the Public's reaction to their performance by deluding yourselves and not testing the correct Linings. In general, I feel that it would be more satisfactory if, for the first car at any rate, you would test complete Brake Equipment to our recommendation; should this not be satisfactory, either on the score of weight or for other reasons, the matter could be considered further. In view of the fact that some considerable time has elapsed since my last visit and that, in the meantime, we have done a great deal of development and experimental work on these new brakes, I feel the time has now arrived when I should pay another visit to discuss this matter with you, and should be glad if you would arrange a suitable appointment in the near future, at your convenience. I suggest that the week after next, week commencing 8th September, would be a suitable time. With regard to Mr. Rigby's query as to the number of Aluminium Castings required, we have sufficient here for the first set of Brakes, but would require further Castings for the other two sets. I suggest that you should make these at your convenience, and let us have at least 50% extra, as we have found the percentage of scrap, due to porosity, to be very high. Kind regards Yours sincerely, [Signature] Parnell | ||
