Messrs. Thos. Firth & Sons Ltd advise that, despite the special efforts they are making to meet our wishes in the matter, it will be early July before further supplies of the S.L.V Valve Steel, so urgently required for both our Chassis and Aero Engines, will be in these Works.

The object of this note is to advise all concerned the desperate position; and as far as 40/50 HP. Chassis output is concerned, I am afraid it will mean a break in output.

Meantime, could we now have authority to use H.R.Crown Steel - of which we have such big stocks available - for inlet valves both on the 20 HP. and 40/50 HP. Chassis - it of course being understood that as far as Aero Engines are concerned we have no alternative but to continue with S.L.V. Steel for inlet and Exhaust.

ROY. {Sir Henry Royce}
