I am handing you herewith two Servo Friction surfaces. They have been removed from PN{Mr Northey}'s Trials Car. No.103.MC. PN{Mr Northey}'s statement to me was that the brakes were ineffective.

It is very doubtful whether, from the condition of the Halos as shown, there was any material difference from the point of view of friction, from what there was in their original condition. The markings on the surface appears to be only normal polishing resulting from rubbing contact with metal.

I am sending same to you and suggesting that on one of your experimental cars it might be possible to make some definite tests as to the value of the braking with the existing halos fitted. Then PN{Mr Northey}'s halos, without touching or cleaning at all, fitted, and re-try the car.

EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} has experienced the effect of the halos in question on 103-MC. and re-tested 103-MC when new ones were fitted, but it will be of interest to let him try your car before changing the halos and after changing, to see whether any material difference did result. Personally, I do not anticipate that there will be any particular difference.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}
