ORIGINAL. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R7/M28.11.31. Sent off 30.11.31. Y5050. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. CYLINDER HEAD. We examined the head casting and are very pleased to see the progress made, and the very satisfactory casting. We are a little bit anxious however that the valve passages will be found to limit the HP. of this engine, not the diameter of the valves but the obstruction in the bends due to the large boss for spindles and guides. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is taking this matter up and will make modifications if at all possible. This need not stop the production of this experimental engine, and my fears may prove to be unfounded, as well as it being found impossible to get better dimensions. Since writing the above the drawing has been examined, and we conclude that the casting is not exactly like the drawing, and also the drawing can be improved by greater finesse, and will be sent to Derby by Tuesday evening. The Peregrine cast iron head is perhaps not so bad, but should be carefully examined. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
