JACKS - 20/25 HP. CAR

BE.3/E.14.11.33.

We have previously looked into the possibility of using the Bentley type jacking pads on this car. The large deflection springs prevent them being a practical proposition, over 1.5" of available jack lift is utilised in deflecting the road spring. We do not know of a jack that has the very large lift and small minimum height that is necessary to make the pad system practical on this car.

With regard to the cost of D.W.S. jacks for this car, in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}3/KT.7.9.33. (copy of which is attached) we quoted cost figures for the 20/25 HP. type of jack. The set of jacks under test have now completed over 7,000 miles and in addition have been subjected to rough abnormal use in an attempt to break them, but they have stood up satisfactorily.

We already have made provision for a satisfactory rear fitting for these jacks on all our production 20/25 HP. cars, because of the large percentage of cars which are fitted with them at coachbuilders and because the previous method of attachment was liable to damage the rear axle Bijur lubrication pipes. In the event of a decision to standardise these jacks, there would therefore be no chassis modifications to be carried out to suit them.
