6447C. 17 Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd. Continued Letter to Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., Sheet No. 2. Derby. altered valve timing consequent on replacing your original camshaft and rockers. The oil consumption at 5,000 r.p.m. works out at less than 1/5 of a pint an hour, and no oil is thrown from the left hand bearing at that speed. Mr. Edwards has explained this morning the troubles you have had with exhaust valves, when running on a max: economy mixture. We are sorry we have no suggestions to offer beyond the one already sighted of trying a smaller radius under the head of the valve. We know that the valves are very sensitive to mixture strength, and these engines are always run at maximum power mixture strength, and slightly richer. Yours faithfully, For RUDGE-WHITWORTH LIMITED.
