X3806 Expl: Dept: He/Gyl/LG. 15th. May 1929. Messrs. C.C. Wakefield & Co.Ltd., Wakefield House, Cheapside, London E.C. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Evans. We thank you for your letter of the 30th.ult. We should be pleased to know the distinction you make between a grease and an oil. We are experimenting with a view to determining whether we cannot use the oils already recommended for our gearbox and engine for Central Chassis Lubrication. This will necessitate recommending two grades of oil i.e., Winter and Summer. As you are aware we have hitherto recommended your Castrol S. for gear purposes, but on examining we find it unsuitable for chassis lubricating purposes. Although you state it is an oil, it seems to us to have the characteristics of grease, being lumpy and colloidal. We are in a position to say that Prices Amber A.{Mr Adams} fulfils the qualifications for a gearbox oil and summer oil for the lubricating system, and we would like you to state if you can recommend an oil of your own of similar nature which can be used for both purposes. Castrol XL. should be suitable we think for winter use on the chassis lubrication, but shall be pleased to have your comments. Yours faithfully, | ||
