Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby. R 8990 Pt. 6/FM-11-1-28 On two occasions chassis GLK68 has had a fairly severe bump in front on the near side damaging the chassis side member, cross steering tube and the side steering tube, and on one occasion the cross steering arms. In each case also the steering column was bent within a few inches of the worm and approximately where the decrease in diameter takes place and the lower portion of the tube is pegged and brazed. To me this seems serious, particularly as this is an expensive part to replace, unless placed in a lathe centres and stretched, in which case one has to consider the effect upon the brazed joint. I am wondering if you have had a similar case and if so, whether you have adopted stretching or have replaced the damaged portion with a new one. It should be remembered that at this distance from the factory, replacing is not always possible, and I shall be glad to have your opinion as to the safety, or otherwise, of stretching. Pt. | ||
