To D/BP. from EFC. EFC2/T17.11.25. RE CHASSIS 66-NK. - SEALING OF BATTERY. Answering your D/BP/F31/H16.11.25, it would be O.K. for the customer to perform this operation, but I should certainly add to their instructions, the strong recommendation that a period of 24 hours since last charging the battery should elapse before this is done, and that the vent plugs should have been out for at least half an hour previous to the operation to allow the escape of any explosive gases. In such circumstances there would be no danger of an explosion. It might, in passing, be remarked to the customer that if the battery is charging with the vent plugs in position (nearly fully charged) and a naked flame passes over the top of the battery, a destructive explosion is almost a certainty.
