- 2 - were dropped down in front of these points. I think it would prevent the mud from being thrown through the slots. The rear shock absorbers appear to have more lost motion than at the start, as though the discs are biting in to the splined hub. The free movement on the end of the lever is 3/32" on one and ¼" on the other. There are oil leaks from the back end of the gear box and from the bottom of the joint of the rear axle casing. Also oil is being ejected from the drain on the off side brake cover. The tappet lever rollers are forming flats on most of them. We took off one of the brake drums to examine the brakes and found it caked with dried mud all over. The drum was in good condition being polished, but slightly worn and grooved. The material seems to be rather good. We have used up all the adjustment on the pedal pull-rod and have today taken up adjustment on axle and let out the pedal adjustment. I believe we shall now be able to wear out the liners by taking up the OUR COMMENTS. We have fixed a guard to the exhaust pipe on 6-G-II, but this is the first complaint that has been raised in regard to the hole for the undershield for the pendulum lever. We will try this experimentally on 7-G-II. We should like Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} to confirm this by inspection. Could Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} report on the behaviour of his shock absorbers. Can Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} also bring this point forward at La{L. A. Archer} Canadel so that we can effect improvements if any on 7-G-II. We will inspect the shock absorbers on 7-G-II, specially to see that this point is in order when turning out. Does Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} consider that these leaks take place when the car is running, or is it a case of slight flood when the car is brought to a standstill. Does he consider that these leaks are due to faulty manufacture and if so in what way. Does he consider an improvement can be effected on 7-G-II. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} also complains of this on 4-G-II. We will try more clearance in the bore of these rollers on 7-G-II as suggested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Does Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} consider the covers for these brakes are satisfactorily fitted, as the k brake drums on this car have rather larger flanges than standard. We have made a special point of this job being satisfactory to drawing on 6-G-II, and are anxious to hear of the behaviour of the brakes on this car during its run to La{L. A. Archer} Canadel.
