-2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GEN.2/KT.4 5.33. PHANTOM. (1) By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} states that an improved material has been in service for one and a half years. (2) A large fabric coupling which was tested on 19-XF and showed no signs of weakness will be in production on June 17th. This coupling can be fitted to any synchromesh gearbox, and Depots could fit this coupling for later failures. (3) The Instruction Book to be altered and read, lubricate dynamo every 1000 miles in place of 2000, also further investigation work to be carried out. (4) The S.O. lubricator to be replaced by a S.C.O. to reduce the chance of over lubrication. We would also recommend the entire deletion of lubricating the servo shafts, providing the shafts and bearing are greased in the first instance. Two 10,000 miles tests have been run under these conditions. (5) The position of the drain to be moved to prevent stagnation of water. 25 H.P. (1) Spring load to be increased on the brakes of dynamo drive, limited movement of brake shoes to be increased. Instances have been found where the stop has prevented the brake load being applied. (2) As Phantom. (3) A scheme is being tested to prevent the rattle. This rattle comes on at approx. 12 m.p.h. -------------------- The cars delivered during the last year are giving very little trouble in service, a quantity of the old faults have entirely disappeared and later troubles have not re-occurred. Chief amongst these being :- (1) Hydraulic Dampers. Not one complaint during twelve months with the split type piston. | ||
